:customer made: trend in action
several days ago i mentioned the :customer made: trend from trendwatching and how it will revolutionize r&d. this is a perfect example of tapping into the knowledge of creative consumers in order to come up with future mobile phone designs. it's all wrapped up as a design competition but in reality it's the perfect way to find out what consumers really want in future devices.

what makes a great leader?
i watched the apprentice last night in which pamela was chosen as the leader of the women's team. she immediately started barking orders and treating her team like a bunch idiots. this obviously didn't go well with the rest of the women. funny thing is that she acted very a la trump who in my opinion is a terrible leader.
one of the characteristics of a great leader is that they are admired. people aspire to be like david neelman and steve jobs....they lead by rallying and motivating their troops. jetblue and apple employees tend to be fanatics of their leaders. these leaders didn't get there by barking orders or by exalting themselves. they lead by nurturing a very innate human attribute - aspiration.

cell phone companies become airlines
big bureaucratic cell phone companies now resemble the airline dinosaurs. these dinosaurs are caught in a never ending circle of responding to each other instead of the one that truly matters...the customer.
